A remarkable signed C1880 Bronze Medal by "J Vatinelle", representing the the Arts and Music.
This is Ursin Jules Vatinelle. He was a sculptor, medalist, and gem engraver born in Paris in 1798 and died in 1881. (See portrait below, a handsome fellow!)
We adore the Acanthus Leaf bale and Handsome elegantly draped man playing the Lyre with an Artists palate and Paper Scrolls (The arts) at his feet. He has a Wreath on his head, a sign of protection.
The reverse has a French statement for Musical and Choral Society.
It is embellished with musical instruments, including a Drum, Violin, Flutes, Horsn and a Lyre.
I suspended the piece on an etched link chain further embellished with double bead capped Faceted Crystals.
This is a rare and exceptional piece that can be worn with pride.
Hallmarked for Bronze on the edge.
Medal weight is approx. 17 Grams and it measures 1.25" in diameter. (bale not included)
Link chain is approx. 28" in length.
